Do you still remember the position of Hidden Blade or a typical weapon of the Ordo Assassin’s in the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Cinematic Trailer? The weapon is seen mounted on the left hand of the character Eivor, and Not behind the arm as most of the Assassin’s Creed franchise before.

His position which is above the arm actually makes the Hidden Blade that should be hidden actually visible. This design at a glance is a reminder of the Persian Assassin character, Darius, who can get many servings in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey series.

Quoted from Gamespot, Ubisoft spoke about the choice to return the Hidden Blade weapon to the main protagonist but with that design. They claim to change the design of Hidden Blade because it adjusts the theme and cultural setting that inspires the protagonist’s character.

“This is a decision we deliberately chose. Eivor would prefer it when people saw his weapon,” explained Narrative Director of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Darby McDevitt. He claimed that this would be in accordance with the Viking culture about the honour he gained when he succeeded in eliminating his opponents.

“Vikings are known to have the honor or get an award when they can finish off their opponents and let others know that he had defeated his enemy,” explained McDevitt.

McDevitt further explained that based on the Viking culture that he believed in, the nation would not immediately punish someone who killed the lives of others for a reason. For example, there is a battle because there are parties who first triggered the problem.

Indirectly, this suggests that the character of Eivor might have a daring act or not choose to attack with stealth or stealth style. At first glance this is reminiscent of the characters of Jacob and Evie in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Jacob has a brawler fighting style while Evie represents the distinctive style of the Assassin’s Cred franchise which is to finish off the opponent in silence. But McDevitt insists Hidden Blade in the latest game will restore the install feature.

Different from Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the ability to kill enemies with an instakill style can only be obtained through certain skills. The Hidden Blade Eivor used was also more similar to Darius’s in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
